Kate Phillips is proud to serve as Shamis & Gentile’s first California based attorney. Throughout her legal career, Kate has represented consumers in complex litigation, with a particular focus on false advertising and consumer protection. She has played a significant role in class actions challenging the marketing of foods, beverages, dietary supplements, textiles, cosmetics, and other consumer products and services. Kate’s practice includes investigating all manners of deceptive marketing practices, developing novel legal theories, and litigating cases aimed at holding companies accountable for misleading consumers.
At UCLA School of Law, Kate served as an editor of UCLA’s criminal justice law review and volunteered with the immigration rights clinic. Previously, Kate used her BFA in Communication Design and minor in marketing in her work as a marketing consultant. This background gives her a unique perspective and allows her to take a more creative approach to her legal practice. Kate has also worked and volunteered with several organizations dedicated to protecting civil rights, experiences that shaped her commitment to advocacy and her approach to developing creative legal solutions for her clients.
Kate started her life in London before moving to Malibu at a young age, kickstarting a lifelong love of travel. Whether she is taking a weekend trip up the California coast or driving across Europe, Kate is always up for an adventure. Her favorite travel partner is her husband. When they are home, the two enjoy cooking meals together, spending time with family, and staying true to Kate’s Malibu roots, spending as much time as possible in and around the ocean.
